Harrissmith Services, Inc. (HSI) was formed to provide support services to the membrane-based water treatment industry. These services consist of:
- Construction Oversight
- Commissioning (Startup)
- Training (Operations)
- Consulting (Process and Operational Issues)
The Industry
The membrane-based water treatment industry is focused on the processes of Ultrafiltration (UF), Nanofiltration (NF), Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) and Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO). These processes are used for providing high quality standard water for municipal (potable), industrial and commercial uses. The technology for these processes is relatively new, although the RO processes have been available for public use since the early 1970’s.
- While the technology is not new, it is known through the industry that the above services are not readily available in an independent form to the various original equipment manufacturers (OEM’S), consulting / design engineers, general contractors and end users. This is most likely due to the upward movement of individual personnel with long-term interests in the industry into management positions that limit their field involvement.
- Also, one of the latest industry trends is to have a “cut and paste” attitude towards the building of new municipal systems, allowing the general contractor to build these facilities without the management of an OEM, therefore making it more necessary to allow the involvement of an independent knowledgeable overseer for the project.
